Lena Mattie Kendrick, daughter of William and Sarah Catherine Ridnour Kendrick, was born December 16, 1892, in Page county, south of Villisca, Iowa, and passed away on September 8, 1965, at Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 72. She had been in poor health for several years.
On December 26, 1912, she was united in marriage with Charles J. King at Clarinda, Iowa. Most of their married life was spent in Taylor and Adams counties until 1958, when they retired and moved to Red Oak.
Mrs. King joined the North Grove Methodist Church in her youth.
In addition to her husband, Charles; she is survived by four children, Ora King, Odessa, Texas, Mrs. Ruby McKee, Estherville, Iowa, Virgil King, Red Oak, and Mrs. Velda Beck, Red Oak; twelve grandchildren; and six great grandchildren
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m. from the Villisca Methodist church with Rev. George S. Snyder officiating. Music was by Mrs. Mabel Dunn and Mrs. Carolyn Hanis. Flowerbearers were Mrs. Cleave King and Mrs. Wilbur King. Pallbearers were Cleave King, Ronald Kester, Chester Kendrick, Thelbert Kendrick, Ross King and Dale King. Interment was in the Guss cemetery.
