Joseph Henry Fudge, second son of Henry and Alice Fudge was born September 4, 1896 near Dexter, Iowa and passed away at his farm home one mile north of Brooks on May 13, 1954 at the age of 57 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
He was united in marriage January 15, 1919 to Laura Imogene Thomas. To this union five children were born Cecil Clarence of Brooks, Virgil C., who was killed in a coasting accident when 13 years old, Freida J. Templeton of Corning, Alice L. Freshour of Villisca, and Frances Joyce at home.
Beside these loved ones he leaves to mourn his passing a daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law, nine grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed very much, mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Thomas of Brooks, five sisters, Jenette Konecne and Elizabeth Hardisty of Corning, Katy Homan, Mary Sprague, and Mabel Keesler of Prescott; four brothers, Bennie of Missouri, Brenell of California, Albert of Corning, and Clyde of Bedford; also a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.
He was preceded in death by one son, Virgil, one granddaughter that died in infancy, and his mother and father.
When five years old he moved with his parents to a farm near Guss. Since that time he has lived on farms in Taylor and Adams Counties, moving to the present family home ten years ago.
Mr. Fudge united with the Methodist Church at Iveyville when 32 years old. He was always kind and thoughtful of others and glad to help at all times.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 16, at 2 p.m. from the Methodist Church in Brooks with Rev. Clare Boos conducting the services. Music was by Mrs. John Little and Mrs. Harold Refling with Mrs. James Stalder pianist. Burial was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Pall bearers were C. C. Clark, Loren Fuller, Harry Cooney, Morris Reichardt, Glen Shewman, and Boyd Freshour.
those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Benning Fudge of LaPlata, Missouri and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Thomas of Galesburg, Illinois.
