Following the accident the injured lad was taken to his home and physicians were called, but the lad passed away shortly after being brought to his home. The tragedy brings sorrow to the entire community and to all who knew the boy personally. Virgil was a favorite among all his acquaintances and was a boy of unusual character and ability. He was a freshman in the Prescott High School where he was popular and a participant in all school activities. Sincere sympathy goes out to the father and mother and other members of the family in their hour of sorrow.
Virgil Clarence Fudge, the second son of Joseph and Laura Fudge, was born on a farm south of Brooks, April 17, 1923 and passed from this life January 9, 1937, at the age of 13 years, 8 months, and 22 days.
Last March the family moved to a farm northwest of Prescott, where they now live. Virgil entered the Prescott High School last fall. He was a good student and was highly esteemed by the entire student body and all who knew him. He was very much interested in his school work and had high hopes and ambitions for the future.
On May 31, 1936, he united with the Methodist Church in Prescott, and was very much interested in Sunday School work and activities. He was very pleasant and happy in his daily life. His passing leaves a place that will be hard to fill in the high school and the community.
those left to mourn are his father and mother; one brother Cecil; two sisters, Freida and Alice; many other relatives and a very large circle of friends.
The funeral services were conducted in the Hillard Funeral Home in Corning by his pastor, Rev. R. V. Felt and the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Prairie Rose Cemetery in Corning.
Supt. T. T. Kries and Miss Arlene Peters, Junior High Teacher, sang, "Sometime We'll Understand," "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and "Nearer My God to Thee." with Mrs. Frank Brandt accompanist. Schoolmates were pall bearers. They were Maurice Kurtz, Ronald Kneller, Carl Grundman, Ray Walter, Clyde Jensen, Harold Young. The entire freshman class attended as well as a large number of other High School students.
