Mrs. D. P. Kerns passed from this life at her home south of Corning, Monday, May 7, 1917, after an illness of six weeks from typhoid fever and a complication of other troubles. The funeral services were held at the Fairiview Christian church this morning, May 9th, at 10:30 o'clock, conducted toy Rev. E. E. Rhodes; The body was laid to rest in the Prairie Rose cemetery.
Cynthia J. Callen, was born in Marshall county, Illinois, December 5, 1850, and came to Adams county, Iowa, with her parents, William and Catherine Callen in the spring of 1870.
She was married to. Darius P. Kerns, of Taylor county, Iowa, on the 26th of October, I871, and they at once located on a farm in Taylor county, near the Fairview Christian church. After a residence of 31 years on the farm they sold the place and moved to Corning, where they remained one year, then located in their present home in the spring of 1902. The past two winters Mr. and Mrs. Kerns spent in the southern states, visiting health resorts. Beside her husband Mrs. Kerns leaves three brothers and three sisters, E. N. Callen, of St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Mary Belding, Corning; Chas. Callen, Washington state; Miles D. Callen, Broken Bow, Nebr.; Mrs. Ann Perkins, Creston, Iowa; Mrs. Emma Edgell, of California. Mrs. Kerns had a large circle of friends who were always interested in her welfare and who watched her condition the past few weeks hoping a change might take place and that she might be spared to her loved ones. All unite in extending sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
