At the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. J. Herring, of this city, late Tuesday afternoonm, Grandma Kerns died at the advanced age of 88 years. the deceased had been ill for some time and was recently brought to Corning in the hope of benefiting her condition. Mrs. Kerns was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania in 1811, her maiden name being Elizabeth Kennedy. Her husband preceded her in death some years ago. She leaves six sons and daughters to mourn a mother's death. They are Joe Kerns, Gravity, S. T. Kerns, Council Bluffs, Mrs. Mary Herring, Corning, D. P. Kerns, Holt Township, Mrs. H. M. Dereusy, Monmouth, Illinois, and Mrs. A. E. Barnes, Holt, Iowa. The funeral will be conducted from the home of her daughter this morning at 10 o'clock, by Rev. Ira P. Clark and interment will be made in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
