Death claimed another pioneer of Adams County with the passing of Mrs. Sadie Jackson, who died Sunday morning following an illness of about two weeks. Death came as a result of heart trouble. At this wring no arrangements have been made for funeral services, as the family is awaiting the arrival of Mrs. Clara Humphrey, who was visiting in California, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Velda Kretzinger.
Sadie Hixinbaugh, daughter of Mrs. J. W. Hixinbaugh, was born in Ohio, July 20, 1857, and died Sunday, July 26th at the age of 74 years and 6 days. She had been able to celebrate her birthday, July 20th, in a very quiet way and was made happy with candied popcorn birthday cake, trimed with red roses, which was made by her brother's wife, Mrs. D. J. Hixinbaugh of Creston.
She was married to Levi Jackson in Henry County, Illinois, November 24, 1874 and in 1878 came to Iowa, where they have resided until their death, in Taylor and Adams County. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. Clara Humphrey and Mrs. Anna Hedman, both of Corning. In early years, Mrs. Jackson united with the Christian Church and has been a faithful and devoted member since that time. Even since old age has overtaken Mrs. Jackson, she has never let an opportunity to do good slip by without giving it her utmost attention and aid. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and was a faithful member as long as she was able to attend.
Beside the two children, Mrs. Jackson is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Fisher of Villisca and Mrs. G. F. Kunce of Omaha, her brothers, Adam and Marion Hixinbaugh of Villisca, and D. J. Hixinbaugh of Creston, and H. L. Hixinbaugh of Red Oak, Iowa, also a granddaughter, Mrs. Velda Kretzinger and great grandson, Edward of Santa Ana, California.
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and her one aim and interest was to do for her loved ones and in her last days, she was very patient and showed her appreciation of the tender care given her by her daughter, her sisters, and the trained nurse in attendance. She leaves many friends and relatives who sorrow with the family in the death of this loved one.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church with interment made in the Prairie Rose Cemetery.
