Mary Ida Fees was born on May 25 1882, at Mt. Etna, Iowa, and passed away April 23,1961, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 29 days. She was the only daughter of Dr. H.S. Sweet and Mary Ida McCune. One brother, Dr. Hartford Sweet, preceded her in death in 1923.
Most of her life was spent in the Mt. Etna vicinity, having attended grade school there, later graduating from the Corning Academy, and then as a housewife, on the farm just north of Mt. Etna. She was united in marriage to Wellington Winfield Fees on February 14, 1907. He preceded her in death in 1942. To this union five children were born, all of whom survive: Homer of Oklahoma City; Mrs. Alice Gearheart of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mrs. Agnes Roland and John of Corning; Hartord of Greenfield. In addition are three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law and seventeen grandchildren. For many years she was a member of the Methodist Church at Mt. Etna, later transferring her membership to the Methodist Church in Corning.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 26,1961, at 2 p.m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Brown Garlock officiating. Music was by Mrs. Brown Garlock and Mrs. Joe Cook. Pallbearers were Elmer Boswell, Herb Holste, Everett Fees, Lester Helvie, Donald Wilmarth and Paul Davis. Interment was in Mt. Etna Cemetery.
