Aged 83 years, 9 months, and 18 days who passed away at her home west of Quincy, Sunday, December 23 at 1:00 p.m. after a six day illness from pneumonia. Mrs. Dunn was one of the pioneer citizens of Adams County and a woman who was highly respected by all who knew her.
Many of our readers will recall that last June, Mrs. Dunn went through a rather thrilling experience when robbers attempted to break into her home persumably for the purpose of robbing her of money. Mrs. Dunn awakened to find someone prowling about inside her house, but with the aid of her faithful dog and shotgun she soon had the would-be robbers "on the run." A number of shots were fired at the time, but fortunately Mrs. Dunn was not injured. For sometime her granddaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Clement Jacobs of Woodbine, Iowa, have been living with Mrs. Dunn and caring for the aged lady.

One more of our early pioneer women departed this life, Sunday, December 23.
Mrs. Isabelle Dunn, whos maiden name was Isabelle Strum, was born in Bradford, Illinois, February 26, 1861 and passed away at her home near Quincy, Iowa, December 23, 1934, being 83 years, 9 months, and 18 days of age.
Pneumonia from which medical skill and loving, tender care could not rescue, caused her death.
Mrs. Dunn is the last of a family of fourteen sisters and brothers, children of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Strum.
On December 24, 1880, Isabelle Strum was united in marriage to Uriah Dunn at Bradford, Illinois where they made their home for six years later moving to a home stead in Kansas, where they lived three years.
In 1889, the young couple purchased the farm just west of Quincy, Iowa, where they spent 50 years together and she has lived four more years on the farm since the death of Mr. Dunn April 20, 1930.
To this union no children were born, but down across those 82 years eight foster-children have lived with them. The two who grew from babyhood in their home werre Bertha and Harry Philour, niece and nephew of Mrs. Dunn.
Mrs. Dunn has been a member of the Methodist Church in Bradford, Illinois since 1876. In youth she was a splendid singer, and sang in the churches in her home city.
Here in her home land of 54 years she was known as a business woman of ability. Her outstanding character was bravery, equaled by few.
Those left to mourn are the devoted foster daughter, Mrs. Bertha Walton of Woodbine, Iowa, and the foster son, Harrry Philour of Corning, grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.
A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom hath recalled,
The boon his love has given;
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.
The funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, December 26, in charge of Rev. William Overhuler of the Carbon M. E. Church and burial was beside her husband in Oakland Cemetery in Quincy.
