John Roy Konecne, son of Joseph and Carrie Hollis Konecne, was born on a farm near Gravity. Iowa, April 19, 1887 and passed away in Jefferson, Iowa, August 11, 1978 at the age of 91 years.
He grew up in Taylor County, Iowa, then moved to Paton, Iowa in 1914. On Sept 4, 1918 he joined the Army at Camp Dodge. He was assigned to the 87th Infantry Division, but the war ended soon after and he received his discharge on Jan. 25, 1919.
Roy was a 60 year continuous member of the American Legion Floyd Brown Post #1l.
In 1926 he went to work for the Greene County Highway Commission where he worked until his retirement in 1962.
He had remained single throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ray Konecne; two sisters, Jessie Maskers and Audra Cooper. Survivors include one brother, Clyde Konecne of Omaha, Neb. and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Slininger Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa, August 14 at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Robert Cook of Grand Junction officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Debra McGinn, soloist and Mrs. Curtis Wilson, organist.
Graveside services were held at Prairie Rose Cemetery in Corning, Iowa, August 14 at 3:00 p.m.

Mrs. Kenneth Barker and Carl Dunkin were relatives from this area to attend the funeral of a cousin, Roy Konecne, 91, at Jefferson, Iowa. He was born in the Gravity area, a brother of the late Jessie Maskers. Burial was at Prairie Rose Cemetery.
