Joseph Henry Konecne, 72, son of Gilbert Raymond and Janette Alice Fudge Konecne, was born Jan. 10, 1918, at Iveyville, Taylor County, and died May 30, 1990, at the Veterans Administration Hospital In Omaha, Neb.
He attended rural schools and Coming Public School and worked in the Carbon and Nodaway coal mines before entering the U.S. Army in March. 1942. He served in Europe during World War II attached to the Aviation Engineer Corps and was discharged in 1945.
On Oct. 12. 1948, he married Beulah Lucille Wycoff at Maryville. They made their home in Corning where he worked several years with the City Street Department and 10 years with Red Star Mills. In 1955 he began working for the Iowa State Highway Commission and was employed by them for 23 years until his retirement in 1979.
He was a member of American Legion Ourcq Post 117 of Corning.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Orvalle Konecne.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah, of Corning; his daughter, Loretta, of Hurst, Texas; and two brothers,
Gilbert of Omaha, Neb. and Dwane and his wife Lois of Renwick.
Services were held June 3 at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home In Corning with the Rev. Ken Rummer officiating. Casket bearers were Jerry Carr, Don Pfander, Wayne Volkl, Mike England, Charles Jones, and Kenneth Smart. Honorary bearers were Dale Carr, Jack Dick, Jim Briles, Lloyd Haley, Calvin Downey, Eldon Roberts, Gene Herring, Lewis Crouse, and Reldon Konecne. Burial was In Prairie Rose Cemetery at Corning with military rites conducted by American Legion Ourcq Post 117.
