Elmer Earl Bixler, 81, was born October 23,1911, near Carl, Iowa to Elmer (Tim) Oren and Nellie Ann Roberts Bixler and died August 2,1993, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Services were held August 5 from St. Peters United Church of Christ in Massena, Iowa, the Rev. James Hanson officiating. Burial was in the Victoria Cemetery in Massena. Mr. Bixler was baptized and confirmed in the Carl Methodist Church and later transferred his membership to St. Peters United Church of Christ in Massena. He attended rural schools in the Carl area. As a young man he worked for area farmers, in the coal mines of Carbon, and for the newly formed REA of Adams County. He married Amy Swain December 15, 1938, in Beatrice, Nebraska and they farmed near Massena in Victoria Township for 31 years. He retired in 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry; a sister, Elsie Wilson and husband Luke; and a brother-in-law,Floyd Kingery. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Earlene (Robert) Krauth of Massena and Karen Palumbo of Coralville, Iowa; five sisters, Mildred (Warren) Cordle of Des Moines, Lois Kingery, Leah (Lloyd) Chafa and Elsie (Wayne) Anderson, all of Corning and Alice Bixler of Kansas City, Missouri; and four grandchildren. Casket bearers were Dennis,Donald and Delmar Chafa, Gary,Leland and Howard Anderson, Chester Kingery, Gerald Wilson and Richard Cordle. Honorary casket bearers were Harry McKee, Joel McCurdy, Jack Barnholdt, Beryl Swope, Clyde Chapman, Kennth Bohanan and Dudley Dougherty.
