John F Cox was born Aug. 30, 1879 Holt, Taylor Count, Iowa, and passed away at his home Oct. 7, 1960 Corning, Adams County. Iowa, aged 81 years.
He spent his early years farming in Taylor County. He was married February 18, 1903 to Lottie McPherren. To this union four children were born. Two sons preceded him in death, an infant son, Arthur, and Ralph on October of 1950. His two living children are Robert of Corning and Maxine Carothers of Anita.
His wife Lottie passed away on September 10, 1935. On June 1, 1938 he was united in marriage to Fern Campbell. for the past 15 years they have lived in their present home in Corning.
Besides his wife, Fern, he leaves to mourn his passing, his children Robert and Maxine, four step children, Harold and Ronald Campbell of Corning, Mrs. Dorothy Cupp of Bolivar, Missouri, and Mrs. Velma Simpson of Port Angeles, Washington, nine grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many friends. One brother and three sisters preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Federated church. He attended the Baptist Church regularly since moving to Corning, until his health failed. Mr. Cox loved his farm work and was a man of clean habits. His family will remember him as a loving husband and a kind father.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 10, at 2 p.m., from the Baptist Church in Corning, Iowa with Rev. Virgil Peterson officiating. Music was by Mrs. Dannie Schafer and Mrs. Joe Cook. Pallbearers were Marshall Miller, Howard Badgett, George Jones, Bob Gentry, Ralph Gentry, and Verlyn Westphal. Interment was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
