Oliver O. Howard, son of George W. and Elizabeth J. Means Howard, was born June 3, 1875, He departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marie West, April 4, 1947, aged 71 years, 9 months, and 29 days. He was united in marriage to Minne M. Hammond, June 3, 1897, she passed away to her reward October 28, 1926. To Mr. and Mrs. Howard were born four children: Mildred, Lewis, Eunice, and Leota Marie. Mr. Howard was converted and united in early manhood to the Methodist Episcopal Church of Nodaway.
On October 10, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Bessie King of Wilcox, Missouri. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, four children, and one step-son, Fred King of Maryville, Missouri; twenty grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. One brother, Henry and one sister, Mrs. Oliver Moser, both of Nodaway.
Mr. Howard was a kind and loving husband and father and will be sadly missed by a host of relatives and friends in the community where he lived.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Carl Stiefel at the M. E. Church of Nodaway, Friday at 2 p.m. The music was by Mrs. Frederick Fisher and Mrs. Dean rogers with Mrs. Lyle Posten, pianist, all of Corning.
The pall bearers were the grandsons, Eugene Howard, Wayne, Walter, Ronald Landrus, James Landrus, Quentin Carlson, and Byron Roseberry. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Ragnor Swanson, Mary Lou Walter, Erma West, and Jenette Landrus. Interment was made in the family lost in the Nodaway Cemetery.
Those from a distance to attend his funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ned Combs, and Mrs. Anna Stiles of Clarinda, Bonnie Shell, Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Shell, Mrs. Mable Huff, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Booth of Wilcox, Missouri, Mrs. Lottie Carroll, Dick Carroll of College Springs, Mrs. Ida Jenkins of Shenandoah, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark of Creston, Mr. and Mrs. Ragnor Swanson of Stanton, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Howard and family, Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Roseberry of Red Oak, Mrs. Pearl Hammond, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. White, Mr. C. C. Howard, Mrs. Carrie Reynolds, Mrs. Eunice Landrus and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Landrus of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Olive Bennett of Wilcox, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hilt and Fred King of Maryville, Missouri.
