After a lingering illness which extended over a period from September 1932 until the time of her passing, Mrs. H. f. Dunn, well known and highly respected citizen of Nodaway township passed away at her home at 8 o'clock a.m. Wednesday, May 30.
Lulu B., daughter of Geo. w. and Elizabeth Howard was born December 3, 1880 in Adams County near her present home and where she spent most of her life. She graduated from the Corning Academy and taught in the public schools in Adams County.
She was united in marriage to H. F. Dunn, October 23, 1900. the established their home in Page County in the North Grove Community and lived there until 1912, when they moved to their present home. Two children were born into this home, Irene, who has made her home with her parents and Orville, who now lives in Camden, New Jersey.
She had been in failing health for several months. All that loving hands and medical skills could do was done to prolong her life, but she quietly and peacefully passed away May 30, 1934 at the age of 51 years, 5 months, and 27 days.
She leaves to mourn her going, her husband and children, one grandson, her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Howard, one sister, Mrs. Herman Moser of Nodaway, two brothers, Oliver Howard of New Market, Iowa and Henry Howard of this community.
Mrs. Dunn became a Christian and united with the Methodist Church early in life. She quietly lived her faith and loved her Lord in the everyday duties of life. She displayed her Christan character by being one of the best of mothers and companions. she was loved by all who knew her. The Nodaway community weeps for the loss of one of its noblest examples of Christian character, one whose daily life and humble ministry were a reflection of our Lord.
She is gone, but not forgotten. The consolation in it all is that death was not an end in itself, but it is the place where the streams of life are merged into the ocean of eternity, it is but the turning point in the endless path of existence.
Out of town people who attended the funeral of Mrs. H. f. Dunn were: Mrs. Steve Payton of Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs. Wilbur Day, Clarinda, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Dunn and daughter Gladys of Red Oak, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. John Snyder and son, Vern, of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mrs. John Thompson, Mrs. Etta Hammond and son Everett, of Parnell, Missouri, Frederick Howard of Radcliffe, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Combs, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. C. Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Thompson of Gravity, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Thompson and daughter of Bedford, Iowa, Mrs. Elizabeth Cavenaugh of Atlantic, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Friday, June 1st, in the Nodaway Methodist Church, and were conducted by Rev. W. T. Clayburg of Villisca. Burial was made in the Nodaway Cemetery. Singing at the services were by Mrs. Fern Reed and Mrs. Harold Everetts.
