Lillian Belle Gustine Kapple, daughter of Fredrick and Jennie Gustine, was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, July 14, 1874 and passed away in Taylor County, Iowa, July 31, 1940 at the age of 56 years and 17 days.
At the age of 8 years she moved to Galesburg and lived until she was united in marriage to Charley Kapple on December 30, 1905. They then moved to a farm in Adams county, one mile east of Nodaway and lived there two years, later moving to a farm in Taylor County, which has since been their home.
To this union four children were born. Surviving is her devoted husband, two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Smith of Prescott, Iowa and Mrs. Faye Oray of Villisca, Iowa; two sons, Roy Kapple of Brooks, Iowa and Arthur at home, two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law, seven grandchildren, two brothers, Arthur Gustine of Galesburg, Illinois and Frank of Peoria, Illinois, a stepfather, Peter Hawkins of Galesburg, also a large number of relatives and friends. Her father and mother preceded her in death.
She united with the Baptist Church at an early age and was a prominent church worker having taught a Sunday School class in Galesburg for 12 years. She then transferred her membership to the Iveyville Methodist Church where she was a faithful worker in church activities and the Methodist Aid until sickness prevented her activities. She was a kind and loving mother, always ready to help in time of need. Long may her life be remembered.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Iveyville Church by Rev. Z. M. Bressler. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Blanch Lund, Mrs. Bessie Mackey, Martin Taylor, and Harl Jackson with Miss Vida Jackson at the piano, sang "Meet Me There," "Shall We Gather At The River?" and "We're Gong Down the Valley." The pall bearers were Ed Stroud, Wilber Fudge, Walker Maxwell, Don Leighton, Harry Shipley, and Johnny Groff. Interment was made in the Methodist Grove Cemetery.
