Clarence A. Schafroth, son of Edward and Elizabeth Hedinger Schafroth, was born in Adams County, Iowa, February 12, 1885. He attended Adams County Schools and was a resident of this area all of his life. He spent 38 years in the Railway Postal Service from which he retired in 1945.
January 12, 1910, he was married to Jessie Lawrence. They made Corning their home and have lived in this community since that time. Mr. Schafroth passed away August 3, 1966 at the Rosary Hospital, following a short illness. He was 81 years, 5 months, and 21 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, (Arlene) Mrs. B. J. Hunter of Columbus, Indiana; a sister Huldah Brown of Sacramento, California, and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, David, and Margaret Hunter.
During his lifetime, he was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Corning.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Corning, Saturday afternoon, August 6, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lester Moore. Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Doyle Tranbarger, Mrs. Bert Peckham, and Mrs. Joe Cook. Pallbearers were William. Kelly, Ivan Heaton, Carol Little, Morris Dunham, Martin Miller, and Kenneth Durrah. Flowerbearers were Mrs. Irma Bauer and Mrs. Doris Davis.
