George Levi Schafroth, 96. son of Levi and Mary Bluest Riggenbach Schafroth, was born June 5, 1892, on his parent's homestead near Mercer Center In Adams County and died May 18. 1989. at Colonial Manor Nusing Home in Corning.
Mr. Schafroth grew up in the Corning area, went to school at Mercer Center, and farmed with his father. On March 22. 1922. he married Irene Russell at the rural home of her parents.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; a grandson, Randy Schafroth: nine sisters, his twin Lillian Thorton, Lena Walter, Louise Miller, Rose Miller, Kate Miller, Emma Schafroth, Mary Miller, Elizabeth Hanson, and Alta Siegenthaler; and five brothers, Edward, John, Will, Fred, and Joe. Mr. Schafroth was the last surviving member of the family of 15 children.
Survivors include three children, Russell Schafroth of Nauvoo, Illinois Wilma Brenner of Baltimore, Maryland, and Marie Nordell of Rapid City. S.D.; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday.. May 23. at the Mercer Center Methodist Church located on the comer of his farm. He was a member of this church all his life. The Rev. Paul Grandon officiated and Gene Thorton, Lynn Schafroth. Bernard Miller. Earl Beamsley, Pete Schafroth, Marshall Miller, and Bill Siegenthaler served as pallbearers. Honorary bearers were Jacqueline Schafroth, Russell L. Schafroth Jr.. Alan Webber, Ron Nordell, Doug Herman, Kenneth Webbert, Arlene Derr, Larry Nordell, Jerry Schafroth. and Linda Perham.
Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery at Corning with Coen-Beaty in charge of the arrangements.
