Kenneth D.Armstrong, 90, passed away Feb.29, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Kenneth Donald Armstrong was born Dec.23,1913 to Adam & Abbie Adella [Moon] Armstrong in Adair County.
Kenneth was raised & attended country school in Adair County. On Dec.30,1939 he was united in marriage to Ethel Irene Vanderpool in Maryville, Mo. To this union 2 children were born, Carol & Duane.
After their marriage they worked & lived on the Paul Baudler farm north of Fontanelle in 1974.
Kenneth was a farmer & well digger. He enjoyed driving around the countryside, feeding & watching birds & traveling. He loved gardening & especially loved his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Adam & Abbie; sisters Beulah Winter Creighton, Edna Miller & Alice Zimmerline; brothers Vernon Armstrong & Edwin Armstrong & 3 siblings in infancy.
He is survived by his wife Ethel Armstrong of Fontanelle; daughter Carol Mattox & husband Dick of Shelby & son Duane Armstrong & wife Lois of Greenfield; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Irene Stuva of Fontanelle, Myrtle Diers & husband Don of Fontanelle & Velma Elliott of Des Moines; sister-in-law Amelia Armstrong of Fontanelle; other relatives & friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday March 4 at the United Methodist Church in Fontanelle with the Rev.Kendle Nichols.
Music tributes were by organist Cynthia Campbell.
Pallbearers were Virgil Armstrong, Gary Stuva, Leland Zimmerline, Richard Williamson, Jimmy Miller & Dee Wright.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Freeman, Ivan Miller, Loren Zimmerline, Rex Zimmerline, Verle Armstrong, Leo Armstrong, Donald Winter & Alvin Walgenbach.
The floral committee was Marty Lientz & Francine Combs.
Interment was in the Fontanelle Cemetery.
Steen Funeral Homes provided professional services.
