C.B. JOINT
C.B. Joint for forty years a resident of Adair county died at his late home in Valley Junction on Monday morning, April 23rd at 5:30. Mr. Joint suffered a severe sickness about eight years ago and since that time has not been well, being afflicted with leakage of the heart. He has been quite active during his last years, however, took great pleasure in motoring and made frequent visits to the home of his children and friends. On the Sunday evening before his death he and his wife had been out for a drive. Soon after their return to the house he complained of being dizzy and sat down in a chair. In a few minutes he suffered a collapse and was unable to use any of his muscles. He did not recover from this condition and passed away the next morning.

Immediately after he was taken sick the five children in Adair and Cass counties were notified, all of them reached his home soon after midnight and all six children were at his bedside when he passed away.

Mr. Joint was born in Joliet, Ill., February 26, 1847 and at the time of his death his age was 74 years, 2 months and 29 days. On October 12, 1868 he was married to Miss Ella Cunningham of Joliet, who survives to mourn his death. To this union were born nine children, three of whom preceded him in death. Those left are: Mrs. Jennie McCampbell, of Valley Junction; Mrs. Walter Smith and T.C. Joint, of Fontanelle; Mrs. Harrty Bower, of Greenfield; George Joint, of Casey; Perry Joint of Atlantic. He also leaves a brother at Horton, Kansas and a sister at Joliet, Illinois.

Through his long residence in Adair county Mr. Joint was widely known and highly respected and made for himself many warm friends who sincerely regret his death. As a farmer he was industrious and frugal, thereby becoming the owner of a large farm six miles northwest of Fontanelle.

Funeral services were held at the home in Valley Junction Wednesday morning and were conducted by the pastor of the Christian church. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Casey.
