John Edward "Johnie" Warrior, 72, passed away June 10 at the Good Samaritan Center in Fontanelle following a bout with brain cancer.
He was born Oct.8,1931, the son of John Henry & Maude Elizabeth [Sturdy] Warrior at the farm home east of Bridgewater.
John grew up on the farm, attending Washington #2 rural school & graduated from Bridgewater High School with the class of 1950. Before & after graduation he helped his dad on the farm & worked on a bridge construction crew.
He was in the US Army from 1952-1954 & served as a medic in Korea.
On Feb. 20,1955 he married Jean L.Bond daughter of Wilbur & Irene [Connelly] Bond. John & Jean were the parents of 3 sons Michael John, Douglas Lee & Jeffery Dean. They farmed north of Bridgewater until 1965 when they bought the farm in Washington Township where John resided until entering the nursing home. His wife Jean passed away Aug.15,1987. Johnie lovingly cared for her during her long illness.
John was preceded in death by his parents & his wife Jean.
John leaves to mourn his passing his 3 sons Michael Warrior & wife LeAnn of Bridgewater, Douglas Warrior & wife Debbie of Greenfield & Jeffery Warrior who lived on the family farm with his father; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; sisters Beth Christensen & husband Wilbur of Bridgewater & Joann Johnson of Norwalk; brother-in-law Jim Karpisek of Falls City, Neb.; several nieces, nephews & many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday June 14 at the United Methodist Church in Bridgewater with the Rev.David Kruse officiating.
Music tributes were by organist Myrt Evans & vocalist Rev.David Kruse.
Pallbearers were John Sullivan, J.C.McCall, Ernie Dunn, Allen Sorenson, Steve Firch, Dean Griffith, Bernard Baudler, Roland "Bud"Ehrsam.
The floral committee was Mary Firch & Myrtle Richards.
Interment was in the Witt Cemetery, rural Bridgewater, with full Military Graveside Rites by the Bridgewater Wm.Thompson American Legion Post #703.
Steen Funeral Homes provided proffessional arrangements.
