Charlotte Johnston was born May 26, 1840 in Meigs County, Ohio and passed away in Des Moines, Iowa at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Leo (Lillian) Elliott, October 29, 1929 being 89 years, 5 months and 3 days of age. She was the daughter of Robert and Susanna Andrews, the youngest of fourteen children and the last to survive. She was married to Joseph Johnston on Sept. 5, 1858. Three children were born to this union. John Emmett, Ida May and Joseph Elmer, eleven grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors. She was a loving mother and was never happier than when her family were with her. She and her husband living together for over 68 years. She with her husband moved from Ohio to Missouri in 1883, in 1893 to Stuart, Iowa and resided here until death. She was a well known and respected citizen of this community. Mrs. Johnston joined the Christian Church in her early days at Danville, Ohio and transferred to the Christian Church at Stuart and was a devout worker until the last few years when she became unable to attend. Funeral services were held here from the Christian Church last Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Pastor,, Rev. Cecil. Interment in South Oake Grove Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa.
