Hazel Louise Whitaker, 83, of Atlantic, passed away Feb.23,2003, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Hazel was born April 19,1919 to Harry Melton & Maude [Shad] Bakerink in Fontanelle.
Hazel was raised & educated in Adair County. She graduated from Richland Consolidated School in 1938.
She was united in marriage to Rex Whitaker on Feb.14,1950. They farmed for many years before moving to Massena in Nov. of 1981.
Hazel was a member of the Massena United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker & enjoyed gardening & flowers.
She was precded in death by her parents; her husband in 1933 & 2 brothers Charles & Fred Bakerink.
Survivors include 2 sisters Helen Reichardt & husband Paul of Fontanelle & Doris Brewer & husband John of Greenfield; 2 brothers-in-law Edward Whitaker & wife Marilyn of Atlantic & Everett Whitaker & wife Marjorie of Council Bluffs; 3 sisters-in-law Olive Herbert of Des Moines, Margaret Hood of Ft. Collins, Colorado & Bernice Bakerink of Des Moines; many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday Feb.27, at the United Methodist Church in Massena with the Rev.David Kruse officiating.
Music was provided by Cynthia Campbell organist & Rev. David Kruse soloist.
Pallbearers were Rob Jaeger, Gary Maas, Wesley Herbert, Randy Kester, Brent Maas & Daman Herbert.
Floral committee were Maysel Brower & Joan Cornell.
Interment was in the Massena Center Cemetery at Massena.
Steen Funeral Homes of Greenfield provided professional arrangements.
