Harold Mensing, 58, passed away Tuesday March 18,2003 at Fontanelle, Iowa.
Harold Emil Mensing was born Feb.7,1945 to Ralph and Blanche [Bricker] Mensing in Greenfield, Iowa. He was baptized on March 18,1945 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield by pastor George Vogal and confirmed at the same Church.
He was raised on a farm northeast of Greenfield and attended rural school in Prussia Township through the 8th grade, graduating from Greenfield High School in 1963.
He was united in mariage to Vickie Raasch on Sept.3,1966, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle by the Rev.C.J.Burrack. To this union 2 sons were born Michael Allen and Chad R.
Harold served on the Adair County Farm Bureau Board, Lamb Producers Board, was a 4-H Leader and served on the Emmanuel Church Vestry. He served in the Army Reserves for 6 years.
Harold loved farming until 1982, when he was diagnosed with Huntingtons Disease and could no longer farm. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed seeing his grandkids and hearing stories about them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Harold is survived by his wife Vickie Mensing of Fontanelle; 2 sons Michael Mensing and wife Ann of Johnston and Chad Mensing of Des Moines; 2 grandchildren Aaron and Elizabeth Mensing of Clarinda; sister Jane Michels and husband Jim of Sioux City, Iowa; mother and father-in-law Russel and Lucil Raash of Fontanelle; brothers and sisters-in-law Donald and Joann Shannon, Vinita and Melvin Smith, and Karen Weber, Bill and Judi Raash, Rex and Verlee Raash and Bert and Evie Sewell and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Harold were held Saturday March 22 at 2 p.m. in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with the Rev.John R.Emerson officiating.
Music was provided by organist Kathy Thompson and vocalist Clark Bredahl.
Pallbearers were Ryan Sewell, Matt Raash, Mark Nelson, T.J.Michels, Steve Petersen and Wayne Shannon.
Honorary pallbearers were Lara Bakos and Martha Lamb.
Serving on the floral committee were Ron and Judy Nelson and Carroll and Linda Wood.
Interment was in the Fontanelle Cemetery.
Professional services were provided by Steen Funeral Homes.
