Lavelle Wayne Butcher, 66, of Glenwood [formerly of the Zion area] passed away Thursday March 17, 2005, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.
He was born Dec.22,1938, in Zion to Wayne and Nellie [Norman] Butcher.
He was struck with polio at age 11, which left an impaired hip and leg. New surgery developed at that time to lengthen his leg and was unsuccessful for him.
Lavelle was happy, cheerful, and smiled a lot. His favorite sport was watching the Omaha Royals. Hew enjoyed the zoo and eating out. He had a special time each day to watch a favorite soap opera.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois Allen.
He is survived by 1 brother Landis and wife Norma Oshel Butcher of Des Moines; 2 sisters LaVonne Alexande of Des Moines and Lila and husband Garry Smith of Urbandale; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held March 23 at Hill of Zion Cemetery, rural Orient, with the Rev.Kevin Mortimer officiating.
Professional arrangements were provided by Steen Funeral Homes.
