Luella Maxine Pickrell, 85, passed away Sept.1,2003, at her rural home in rural Greenfield.
She was born Nov.12,1917, to Elmer A. and Lena Maude [Pedigo] Hoskinson in Adams County.
Maxine grew up in rural Corning, graduated from Denison High School and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines.
She was united in marriage to Joseph Jasper Pickrell in St.Joseph, Mo. They lived on a farm in Adair County near Fontanelle and then moved to a farm east of Greenfield where she lived for over 50 years. To this union 1 son Larry was born.
Maxine taught school more than 44 years. She enjoyed cooking, collecting Teddy Bears, loved flowers and especially enjoyed hearing from former students.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph; sisters Ennice Henkel, Mary West and Myrtle Allen.
She is survived by her son Larry Pickrell and Lynneta of Greeley, Colorado; 2 grandchildren Tracy [Pickrell] Marvis and husband Dallas of Creston and Troy and Kay Pickrell of Greeley, Colorado; 4 great-grandchildren Robin, Robert, Dillion and Steven Pickrell; sister Marjorie Iola Russell of Corning; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept.5 at Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rerv.Chad Lierman officiating.
Musical tributes included recorded selections "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer.
Pallbearers were Dallas Mavis, Jerry Russell, Lewis Shike, Troy Pickrell, Bob Miller and Larry Joe Vandewater.
The floral committee was Beverly Shike and Diane Subbert.
Interment was in the Greenfield Cemetery.
