Hiram Kent was born near Portland, Ind. April 20,1845 and died at Des Moines, IA. May 10,1920 aged 75 years and 20 days. At the age of 10 years he came with his parents to Iowa and spent 25 years of his early life in Poweshiek County and the remaining years in nearby counties. He joined the United Brethern Church at the age of 19 and remained a faithful member through life. He was united in marriage to Miss Viretta Eirp June 16,1863, who passed away 10 years ago. To this union 6 children were born. Mrs.Clara Bagenstos of Brooklin, IA.; Mrs. Mamie James of Glidden, IA. who passed away 12 years ago; Benjamine Kent of Norwalk, IA.; and 3 who passed away in infancy, leaving 2 children,5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn the loss of a loving father and a kind friend.
He was taken sick on March 25 and bore his afflictions patiently until death relieved him.
Funeral services were held at Kent Chapel conducted by Rev.E.W.F.Holler. Interment was in the Kent Cemetery; Poweshiek County; Montour, IA.
