Edward F. Kent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Kent, was born in Green Castle, Ind., Jan.23,1845, and died of a heart disease at Haven, Tama County, Iowa, May 5,1909, being therefore past 64 years of age.
When 6 years old he moved with his parents to a farm near Brooklin, Iowa Poweshiek County where he received his education in the public schools and grew to manhood.
In the year 1865 he was united in marriage to Polly Spaulding. To this union was born 6 sons.
Mr. and Mrs. Kent lived in the vicinity of Brooklin for 18 years and then moved to Haven where they have since made their home with the exception of 5 years they lived in Victor, Iowa.
Mr. Kent was a man who was always good and kind to everyone and especially to his family. He was converted and united with the M.E.Church at Haven Sept.1,1895 under the pastorate of Rev.Young.
For the past 5 years his health has been failing, but his death came very sudden and unexpected. Just a few days before his death he uttered these words "I am ready to go. Death has no terror for me." He has gone to a Land from which no traveler ever returneth.
He leaves to mourn his departure a loving wife, 2 sons-Thomas H. of Tama, Iowa and Charles E. of Haven, Iowa- and an adopted daughter Flora A. of Haven,Iowa; Alva Abbott who has made his home with the family for 18 years; 4 brothers and sisters-Thomas Kent of Bostonia, Calif.; Albert Kent of Greenfield, Iowa; Steven Kent of Wessington Springs, S.D.; Mrs. Dolly McDonald of Sterling, Kansas; Mrs. Sarah Spaulding of Fontanelle, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and a host of other relation and friends.
