L.Ethel Dunkerson 94, of Fontanelle passed away Sunday Aug.15,2004 at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born to Cameron and Rosie [Antisdel] Tucker on Sept.3,1910 in rural Adair County.
She was baptized and attended the Pleasant Grove Congregational Church until moving to Fontanelle where she attended the First Congregational Church.
Ethel attended Adair County rural schools and graduated from 8th grade.
On Dec.17,1928 Ethel married Paul Dunkerson. 2 children Ronald and Lola were born to this union.
Ethel lived in Adair County all of her life with the exception of 3 years spent in Adams County. Ethel and Paul moved to the home place in 1939 and lived there until moving to Fontanelle in 1968. While on the farm Ethel always had a big garden and raised chickens. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was always willing to help others with canning or whatever jobs they were doing. Ethel treasured and loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and loved to have them visit.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; 1 daughter-in-law; 7 brothers; 3 sisters and 2 brothers who died in infancy.
She is survived by a son Ronald Dunkerson and wife Joanne of Panora; daughter Lola Schrader and husband John of Prescott; 6 grandchildren; Keith Dunkerson and wife Sheila of Newton, Mike Dunkerson and wife Joni of Newton, Rhonda McCann and husband Don of Marshalltown, Denice Brownrigg and husband David of Creston, David Schrader and wife Debra of Prescott, Diane England and husband Mike of Sergeant Bluff; 1 step granddaughter Barbara Herr and husband Ronalld of Fontanelle; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandsons; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 4 sister-in-laws; niecs,nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held Aug.18 at Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle with the Rev.Jerry Hoff officiating.
Music tributes were by organist Zola Westphal and soloist Diana Kordick.
Pallbearers were Leo, Lewis, Danny and Richard Tucker, Larry Skelton and John Marnin.
Burial was in the Carl Cemetery Adams County.
