Thomas Dayle Cline 85, succumbed to non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Sunday Aug.15,2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Dayle was born March 29,1919 south of Casey to Albert E.Cline and Hazel M.[Utts] Cline Breheny.
He graduated from Casey High School and entered the Navy. He served 1941-1945 attaining the rank of Aviation Machinists Mate Chief. He saw duty in the islands of the South Pacific.
He was married to Edna M.Kading Nov.3,1944 in Calif. They had 4 children.
He and Edna returned to farm with his father south of Casey in Walnut Township where they lived until moving to Adel in May 2004.
Dayle was very active in soil conservation. His farm was one of the first in Adair County to use contour terraces and farm ponds for soil improvement. He was awarded numerous citations and a gold watch after 25 years of service.
Besides farming, Dayle worked for Adair County Road Maintenance, Iowa State Highway Maintenance and he retired from the U.S.Post Office as a rural carrier.
Dayle was a lifelong member of theUnited Methodist Church serving as lay leader and various other offices on the church board. He was a long time member of the Casey Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post in Casey. He was active on the Casey Library Board and the Adair County Historical Museum in Greenfield.
Dayle was preceded in death by his parents; brother James Cline; and half brother Charles Breheny.
Darle is survived by his wife Edna; son Tom and wife Darla Cline of Dallas Center; Daughter Peggy and husband Jim Cook of Goffstown, N.H.; Marijane Miller of St.Cloud, Minn.;and Martha Cline of Adel; 8 grandchildren Cindy and husband Mitch Price, Karen and husband Mike Scott, Chris Cline, Amanda, Michael, Carrie and Jon Cook, Teri Jo Miller; 3 great-grandchildren Matthew and Melissa Price and Michael Scott.
No funeral is planned.
Memorials may be sent to the Duncan Memorial Library in Casey or the Adair County Historical Museum in Greenfield. Cards may be sent to Edna Cline at 1016 1/2 Grove St. #B Adel, IA. 50003.
