Ruby Raper 101, of Menlo died Tuesday morning Aug.31,2004 at the Adair County Health Center in Adair.
Ruby Colbert Raper was born May 26, 1903 in Erie, Ill. to Quince and Addie Belle [Hyzer] Colbert. They moved to Menlo in 1905 where Ruby attended school through the seventh grade. The family then moved to Casey where she graduated in 1921.
She married Carlton "Ted" Raper in 1922 and moved to Davenport where they both attended the Palmer Chiropatric School. They practiced in Conway, Ark., for a year and a half before moving to California in 1935 to become apartment managers. In 1970 they moved to Dyersville where they were mangers at the Colonial Motel. 1976 brought the 2 back to Menlo where a chiropractic practice was set up in their home. Ruby was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980; all 3 of her sisters Opal Ward, Lorene Ward and Maxine Dunbar.
She is survived by her nieces Beverly Ward Clement of Des Moines and LaNeita Ward Thompson of Omaha, Neb.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday Sept.2 at the Canby Cemetery with Pastor Clifford Speck as Officiant.
