Bonnie Jean Leonard, 74, passed away at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield on Sunday Sept.5,2004.

She was born Oct.30,1929 to Chauncey Clinton and Opal Esther [Mitchell] Brees in Knoxville.

Bonnie grew up in the Des Moines area and farms surrounding Des Moines. She attended Waukee High School, North High, Norwalk High and graduated from East High School in Des Moines.

On Jan.19,1948 Bonnie was united in marriage to John Delbert Leonard. During her lifetime she lived in Des Moines, Norwalk, Winterset and Greenfield.

Bonnie worked for Farm Bureal Insurance, The Greyhound Lines, Madison County Hospital in Winterset and Bankers Life [Principal] in Des Moines until retiring June 5,1995. She updated computers, was a secretary and helped people with estate planning.

She enjoyed her flowers, working in the yard, sewing and pets.

She was preceded in death by her father and a sister Beverly Ann Brees who died at the age of 6 months.

She is survived by her husband John of Greenfield; children Steven Leonard of Macksburg; John Leonard of Pensacola, Fla.; Ron Leonard of Madrid and Tim Leonard and wife Julie of Osceola; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; mother Opal Brees of Des Moines; sisters Betty Hamilton and husband Don of Des Moines and Sandra Thompson and husband Harlan of Winterset; a brother Dick Brees and wife Carol of LeHigh; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sept.8 at the Word of Life Family Church in Winterset with the Rev. Tracy Edwards officiating.

Music tributes were provided by vocalist Pat Gibson.

Pallbearers were Bill and Will and Andy and Velma and Alan Blazek.

Interment was in the Peru Cemetery at Peru, Iowa.
