William Brown son of Wilhelm Brown and his wife Anna Brockmann Brown was born Sept. 29,1892 in a sod house in Pleasant Valley Township, Aurora County S.D.
At the age of 2 years he came with his family to Adair County, Iowa and settled on the farm which is still known as the William G.Brown farm. He received his formal education in the rural schools of Adair County.
After the passing of his father in 1914 he assisted his mother in the operation of the farm.
On Nov.1,1916 he was united in marriage with Goldie Pearl Purdy. To this union 2 children were born Viola and Leo. In 1948 he and his wife retired to Fontanelle where he enjoyed his retirement years. In 1966 he and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
During the past few years he was in failing health. It was on Monday March 20, 1972 at 1:30 p.m. at the Adair County Memorial Hospital that he passed quietly from this life at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 20 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 sister Mrs. Dora Rohner.
He is survived by his wife Goldie of Fontanelle; a daughter Viola and her husband Hardy Larson of Fargo, N.D.; a son Leo and his wife Maxine of Mallard, Iowa; 3 grandchildren children of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Brown;Becky and her husband Dick Schweitzer of Atlantic, Iowa; Cindy and her husband David Huyink of Pasadena, Calif.; Barry Brown of Burlington, Iowa; 2 great-grandchildren Kimberly and Keri Schweitzer of Atlantic; 1 brother Otto Brown of Fontanelle; 2 sisters Mrs. Clara Zietlow and Mrs Emma Rohner of Fontanelle.
