Esther M. (Herrick) Parlee

Esther May Herrick was born January 15, 1897 to Rev. George and Ella McCullough Herrick in Bridgewater, Iowa. She was the youngest in a family of six brothers and one sister. She had two little sisters who died in infancy. She attended schools in Adair County and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1917. She then taught schools in Adair County until her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Cecil I. Parlee, August 1, 1920 in Grand River Township at the home of her parents by her father, Rev. Herrick. To this union three children were born: William, Robert, and Mary.

Esther was an active member of the Kings Daughters until her decline in health. She was also a volunteer worker for Congregate Meals for several years.

She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Betty Lou of Santa Rosa, California; daughter Mary and husband Harold Roberts of Greenfield, Iowa; one daughter-in-law Bettie Parlee of Des Moines, Iowa; One brother-in-law, Raymond Parlee of Atlantic, Iowa one sister-in-law, Ester Herrick of the Good Samaritan Center in Fontanelle, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, William; one great grandson; six brothers; and one sister.

Services were held at the Greenfield United Methodist Church, Greenfield, Iowa, The Rev. William E. Olmsted officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Alice Hogren. The organ selections were "Amazing Grace" and "Each Step I Take".

Pallbearers were Wayne Ray, Don Mayes, Carl Carlson, Kenneth Kirlin, Fred Skellenger and Kenneth Mallatt. Honorary Pallbearers were Lyle Ray, Wilton Winn, and Dick Seley. The Floral Committee included Mrs. Pearle Winn and Mrs. Betty McCunn.

Interment was at the Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Iowa.
