Clarence Edson Herrick, son of George T. and Ella (McCullough) Herrick was born April 25, 1888 in Washington township, Adair County, Iowa and passed away at Crest Haven Nursing Home, Creston, Iowa, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 1972 at the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 8 days. He spent most of his life in Adair County, Iowa.

He was united in marriage on March 12, 1910 to Bessie M. Brawdy. To this union seven children were born, all of whom are living except one son, Mayo, who died in infancy. His wife, Bessie, preceded him in death in 1949.

He was united in marriage to Tencie B. (James) Hogueison on July 27, 1952, at Orient, Iowa. Survivors are his wife Tencie, Fontanelle, Iowa; sons, Malcolm, Greenfield, Iowa and Floyd, Westminster, California and their wives and daughters, Maxine, Mrs. Adolph Feil of Decatur, Alabama; Darlene, Mrs. Jack Lassen, Anganya, Guam; Beulah, Mrs. Leo Yankus, Oxford, Massachusetts; and Loretta, Mrs. Earl McConeghey, Council Bluffs, Iowa and their husbands; also two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Elliott of Creston, Iowa and Mrs. Esther Parlee of Greenfield. Survivors also include seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ, Bridgewater, Iowa.

In early life, Clarence worked as a dragman, farmer, painter, carpenter, mason and was custodian of the Bridgewater School for many years. He loved children and he had many friends among the young people of the community. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He loved the out-of-doors and spent many happy hours hunting and fishing.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, October 5, 1972 at 2 o'clock at the Bridgewater Christian Church with George G. Hunt, D. D. of Greenfield officiating.

The music was furnished by Mrs. Ruth Gipple and Elto Williams, who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden", accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Neva Sinner who also played a prelude of sacred music as the crowd was gathering for the services.

The pallbearers were Tony Hall, Lloyd Snell, Don Lawrence, Paul Dorey, Alvin Frese and Oscar Schultz, Jr. The floral committee were Mrs. Mrs. Tony Hall and Mrs. Ed Wambold. The interment was at the Witt cemetery southeast of Bridgewater. The arrangements were by Bickford-Murray Funeral Home of Greenfield, Iowa.

Following the funeral and burial services, the members of the Martha Circle and other members of the Bridgewater Christian Church served a delicious lunch to the members of the Herrick family, other relatives and friend at the Christian Church parlor.
