Homer Tullius Scofield was born near Cleveland, Ohio, November 21, 1842, and died June 6, 1919, aged 76 years, 6 months and 15 days.

At the age of 10 years he moved with his parents to Henry County, Illinois, where he grew to young manhood. at 20 years of age he heard the call of his country and answered it by enlisting in Company D. 112th Illinois Infantry. He gave his country three years of of service, esteeming it a privilege to die if need be that the union might live. But he was spared and returned to his home, where he was married three years later to Miss Elizabeth Shires and moved to Adair county, Iowa. Six children were born to this union, of whom three are living: Marion E. Scofield, Mrs. Minnie B. Lyon, Otoe county, and J. B. Scofield, Custer county.

He was bereft of his wife in December, 1881, keeping the home with the children until July, 1887, when he was married to Mrs. Martha Lucas. They lived successively in Blain and Custer counties until 1894, when they moved to Aurora, remaining here until the death of Mr. Scofield.

To the second marriage three children were born.

The death of Mr. Scofield came as a distinct shock to his many friends. His affliction extended back for some ears, but became so acute lately that he left for Rochester, Minn., where he submitted to an operation. But the shock was too great and he died from the effects. The body was brought back by his brother on Saturday afternoon and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the house, conducted by Rev. H. H. Heberly, pastor of the United Brethern Church.
