H. P. Scofield is Laid to Rest

Funeral services for H. P. Scofield were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Greenfield. The Reverend W. Frank Lister conducted the services. Members of the choir were Mrs. P. C. Cornell, Mrs. Paul Bickford, Dale Piper and Paul Bickford with Miss Ethel Carl as accompanist. The selections:—"Rock of Ages"; "Going Down the Valley" and a duet by Mrs. Bickford and Mrs. Cornell entitled, "Tarry With Me."

The pallbearers were: Walter and Elmer Piper, George Sawyer, L. S. Roberts, Charles Mills and Grant Welker. Interment was in the Greenfield cemetery.

Holin P. Scofield son of Benjamin Burt Scofield and Sarah A. Bonham Scofield was born, March 28, 1846, in Cleveland, Ohio and died October 12, 1932, at his home in Greenfield, Iowa, aged 86 years, 6 months, 14 days.

When six years of age he came with his parents to Henry County, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. Afterwards he moved with is brother Homer to Adair County Iowa in April 1869 settling in Grand River township, where he lived until 1908 when he moved to Greenfield.

He was married to Sarah F. Pryor, April 3, 1872. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Frank D., Eva M., Benjamin, Charles C. and Walter Roy, the last two dying while young.

Mrs. Scofield died April 29, 1890.

He was united in marriage June 10, 1896 to Tillie M. Gaskill, widow of Charles Gaskill. She preceded him in death February 27, 1930.

Mr. Scofield united with the Methodist church at the Hoadley school house, where services were being held at that time, later becoming a member of Clara Chapel.

The deceased leaves to mourn his death three children, Frank D. of Scottsbluff, Eva M. of Greenfield and Benjamin of Sheldon. One brother Frank L. of Okemah, Okla. and one sister, Mrs. A. M. Deuel of Aurora, Nebraska, besides three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
