Injury Fatal to Orla J. Elliott

Orla J. Elliott, 30, died at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Saturday, following an emergency operation, which was performed Wednesday night.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Methodist church at Greenfield. The Rev. J. R McNichols conducted the services. Members of the choir who furnished the music were: F. E. Rhodes, Merlynn Clark, Miss Lillian Sissel and Mrs. P. C. Cornell with Mrs. J. R. McNichols as accompanist. The selection were: “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Those serving as pallbearers were Wilton Winn, Clyde Piper, Arthur Hall, Levi Hansen, Cecil, Anderson, and Arnold Anderson. Interment was in the Greenfield cemetery.

Orla J. Elliott, second son of John and Blanche Elliott was born at Havana, North Dakota, July 22, 1906 and passed away at the Methodist hospital at Des Moines, January 17,1937 at the age of 30 years, 5 months, and twenty-five days.

The greater part of his life was spent in the community of Greenfield with the exception of four years of his early life spent in North Dakota.

He was graduated for the Greenfield High School with the class of 1925. After his graduation he was employed with the Standard Oil Company. Later in the company of three boy friends they traveled through the west where they were employed at Seattle, Washington and Twin Falls, Idaho.

On November 14, 1931 he was united in marriage to Miss Velma Armstrong at Papillion, Nebraska. To this union was born a daughter, Delores Arlene.

For the past eight years he has been operating a tractor for Adair county were he very willingly and capably rendered his services.

On the morning of January 22, he began his work feeling as usual, but by over effort to help his fellow-men he was stricken ill. As his condition did not improve satisfactorily he was taken to the Methodist hospital at Des Moines where he passed away Saturday morning at 1 o’clock.

All was done that loving hands could do and all ministered faithfully to his needs and comforts.

He was a true friend and ever ready to give his time and labor to all in need.

He was a devoted man to his home and family and his passing will be greatly missed by them.
