Harriet Louise McMullen, the daughter of Major and Elsie McMullen, was born March 11, 1853 at New Windsor, Illinois and departed this life at her late home in Greenfield, Iowa, December 31, 1942. She was the last of a family of five children.

On December 31 1872 just 70 years before her death, she was married to Kyer Elliott at Cambridge, Illinois. To this union four children were born. Three of them survive their mother, J. P. Elliott of Greenfield; Mrs. F. W. Luers of Orient, and G. W. Elliott of Greenfield. One daughter had preceded her mother in death and the father and husband died May 3, 1917.

After their marriage the came to Iowa where they engaged in farming following that occupation until 1907 when Mr. Elliott’s health failed and they moved to Greenfield in November 1907.

In an early day Mrs. Elliott was converted and united with the Congregational Church at Grand River Center. When they moved to Greenfield she united with the Methodist Church her under the pastorate of Rev W. H. Cable in 1908. Since that time she has been faithful to her Christ, serving Him with cheerful generosity, and giving to the church freely of her moderate means. There was never any question of her loyalty to her church and to her Christ. She was not afraid to lift her voice in the defense of all those things that were good and her firm character made her just as firm against the things that were evil. Her hands were always helpfully busy at good deeds. And the memory of those deeds will long be remembered of her. Her Christian character was of the type which no one ever seemed to question. She has entered into the rest that remains to the people of God.

She leaves two sons and a daughter, five grandchildren and twelve great grand children, a blessed memory of a wonderful Christian heritage.
