Kyer Elliott, a resident of Adair County for forty-two and of Greenfield since 1907. Passed away at his home on Walnut and Court streets at seven o’clock May 2nd (1917). He was born at Terre Haute, Indiana December 15th 1846 and when a child of two years moved to Richland Grove township, Illinois with his parents. He enlisted with Company L, 11th regiment of the Illinois calvary and was enrolled on the 24th day of February 1865. He was discharged from service on the 30th day of September 1865 at Memphis, Tennessee.

He was united in marriage with Miss Hattie McMullen at Cambridge, Illinois, December 31, 1876. Three years later they moved to Adair county and settled on a farm in Grand River township which is now the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Holliday.

Mr. Elliott was engage in farming and stock raising until 197 when he moved to Greenfield where he expected to take a well earned rest and enjoy life as well as his broken health would permit. For months he suffered with heart trouble. He was a man of action and in his younger days was a leader in the interests of Grand River township. He was a deep thinker and a man of but few words.

He leaves his wife and three children. They are J. P. Elliott and Mrs. Edna Luers of Orient and G. W. Elliott of Clinton. The eldest daughter, Sadie died thirteen years ago. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by Rev. J. E. Lombard. The pall bearers were A. G. Brown, H. P. Scofield, Bert Crooks, J. P Jordon, M. S Sissell and J. A. Rostatte. The members of Myers Post, G. A. R. and the Women’s Relief Corp attend the funeral and were seated in body. The wife and children have a host of friends in sympathy with them in their hour of bereavement.
