Lillian Angela Griffin Nordman passed from this life on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Bickford Cottage in Urbandale. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 2 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines with entombment in Resthaven Cemetery Mausoleum.

Lillian was born in Adair, IA on June 6, 1922 the daughter of Michael John and Eleanor (Hogan) Griffin.

She graduated from Adair High School in 1939, Ottumwa Heights College in 1947 and from Coe College in 1960. She taught school in Audubon from 1942 until 1943, Perry from 1947 until 1955 and Marion from 1955 until her retirement in 1983.

She was married to Grover C. (Buck) Nordman on March 1, 1949 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Perry, Iowa. Buck and Lil celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Marion on March 1, 1999.

Lil enjoyed all of the students she taught, her family and her dogs. She loved to write and was well known for her poetry. Lil enjoyed music, dancing and playing the organ and spending time with her many friends.

Lil is survived by her nieces; Fran Pearson and Kathy Wynn of Urbandale, Mary Wilson of Knoxville as well as many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Buck on December 12, 1999; her parents; her brothers Bernard, Jim, and Harold Griffin and her sisters; Mildred Lydon and Eleanor Lydon.

The rosary and scripture service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren's Chapel, 801-19th. St. West Des Moines.

Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bickford Cottage for the love, support and care given to Lillian.
