From the Adair County Free Press, September 1973 “Marion Woodson Died Sunday Evening – Marion R. (Si) Woodson, 71, retired Grand River township farmer departed this life at 6:30 pm Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He had been experiencing a decline in health for some time and had been hospitalized on several occasions, both in the local hospital and in Des Moines. When Mr. Woodson’s health began to fail they retired from their Grand River Township farm and for a time lived in a four-plex in Orient. Last January they moved to the home they own at 202 Southeast Jackson Street in Greenfield. Surviving Mr. Woodson are his wife Evelyn; a daughter Mary Lou (Mrs. James Brolin) of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Carolyn (Mrs. Gene Livingston) of Menlo; son Edward of Crystal Lake, Ill; daughter Kay (Mrs. James Hughes) Palatine, Ill; son Donnie of Orient and seven grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Woodson were to be held at two o’clock this Wednesday afternoon, Sept 12 at Bickford-Murray Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Quiring of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Lester Jones, organist, and John Jones, soloist. The selections used were ‘Beyond the Sunset’ and ‘How Great thou Art’. Mr. and Mrs. Audra Buck and Mr. and Mrs. John Soderberg had charge of the floral tributes. Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery. The pallbearers were Bill Crigger, Wallace Grounds, Roland Gross, Larry Riley, Stanley Sherer, and Don Weber. The family suggest memorials for respiratory research.”
