E. Marie Carter, 95, died at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1992, at Nelson Nursing Home.

The body has been cremated and private family services will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials to the American Cancer society or the Fairfield Public Library in care of Dr. L.B. Carter.

Mrs. Carter was born March 22, 1897, in Greenfield the daughter of Lincoln H. and Sarah C. Koons Gordon. She married Leslie B. Carter on Dec. 27, 1919. He died July 20, 1954. She had lived and taught English in Canada, Osage and Riceville. She moved to Iowa City in 1948, where she worked at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Opthalmology Department. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Iowa City and Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are a son, Lewis B. Carter of Fairfield; three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Two sisters, Pearl Evans and Etha Potter, and four brothers, Wayne, Warren, Leo, and Ward proceded her in death.
