John Frederick, the eldest son of Alexander "Alex" Schwab and Helen Louise Stubbs, was born on June 19, 1861, in Lee County, Illinois. He died on January 30, 1931, in Greenfield, Iowa. At the age of three he moved to Washington Township with his parents and sister where they lived until the spring of 1870, when they moved to Richland Township. It was there in the Penn Avenue neighborhood that he spent most of his boyhood days.

He was united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Bowen on March 18, 1832. Mary was born in Morgan County, Illinois to Andrew Thomas Bowen and Eliza Ann Holmes.

John Frederick and Mary had five children. Lester Amos married Gertrude Olive Deuel on December 27, 1905. Their children were Floyd Odean "Bud" married Jessie Bernice Bruett (children Jack and Jo Ann, both died at birth). Walter Hollen "Skinny" married Doris Alvera Martinson (Children Judith Huss and David). Helen Louise "Toots" married Charles Lloyd "Swipe" Swisher (children Shirley and Linda). Clarence Hugh married Blanche Rasmussen (children Janice and Robert). They divorced and Hugh marred Bette Turner (children Cynthia and Shauna Hue). Wilma Darlene "Jim" married Audra George Elliott (children Vaughn Anderson, Donald, Peggy Webster and Patsy Kueber). After Audra's death, Wilma married Dale Adkins and is now divorced. Richard Audrey "Dick" married Leona Mary (Lee) Hraha (children Sharen Gengler and Terry). Ruth Marie "Ruthie" married Charles Maulding (Children John and Charles Jr.). They divorced and she married George Jack Meyers (child Robert). Lester and Gertrude were divorced on November 21, 1938 and married Emma McQuillian on December 2, 1939, There were no children from this union.

Jessie Earl Sr. married Edna B. Wolfe on May 26, 1909. There children were Bernice E. Schwab, Mildred, infant daughter (deceased), Wallace Dean, and Jessie Earl Jr.

Robert Lee married Birdie Brown on March 19, 1913. Their children were Eileen, Frederick Earl and Erma Lee.

Anna Elizabeth "Bessie" never married.

Fannie Fay married Glen Leroy Faber on December 31, 1914. Their children were Marie Francis Sackett, Merlin Frederick, Melvin Leroy "Sam", Dorothy Jean Rude, Helen Louise and John Schwab.

J. F. passed away on January 30, 1931, in Greenfield and Mary passed away on August 6, 1956, in Greenfield. Both are buried in the
Greenfield Cemetery, south of Greenfield, Iowa.
