John Parker Elliott

John Parker was born September 1 1878, in Adair County to Hezekiah B. Elliott and Harriot Louise McMullen. He received his education in the rural schools of Lee Township in Adair County. He was united in marriage to Mary Blanche Herrick on March 15, 1903, at the home of her parents, Reverend and Mrs. George T. Herrick. Their were three children born to John and Blanche: Ora Drew "Drew" who married Elsie Myrtle Law (child: Ora LeRoy); Orla J. who married Velma Arlene Armstrong (child: Delores Arlene Chambers); and Audra George who married Wilma Darlene Schwab.

They began housekeeping on a farm in Grand River Township, where, with the exception of four years spent in North Dakota, they continued to love until they moved to Greenfield in 1927. He was employed by the Adair County Road Department and continued in this work until he retired in January 1957. He then farmed part time on a farm they purchased, east of Bridgewater, Iowa. due to his poor health, they sold the farm in 1960 and purchased a home in Fontanelle. John passed away on November 25, 1962, in Greenfield and Blanche passed away on April 13, 1974, in Greenfield. Both are buried in the Greenfield Cemetery south of Greenfield, Iowa.
