Harold and Sylvia (Schwab) Carr

Harold was born in Falmouth, Kentucky, to Leslie and Thelma (Wilson) Carr on February 13, 1933. Sylvia is the daughter of Warren and Clara (Garoutte) Schwab, born at home in the Penn Avenue community on May 28, 1935.

Harold and Sylvia were married at Pennn Avenue Church on October 5, 1957. Harold was in the Air Force Bace at Omaha, Nebraska. After his discharge, they moved to Richland Township on 80 acres in section 2 on March 1959. In March 1962, they purchased 80 acres in section 3 of Richland Township from George Duckett.

Harold and Sylvia and parents of four children: Alan, March 10, 1960; Catherine, February 1, 1962; Linda, January 9, 1964; and Ruth, May 10, 1966. All of the children attended Richland Consolidated School, and after the merger with Orient, all graduated from Orient-Macksburg High School and Iowa State University.

Harold "Harry" rented land and farmed several farms in Richland and Summerset Townships until 1974 when he farmed 160 acres for Gerald Schwab, the Gildemaster farm and his own 80 acres. Harold is very active in the Hawkeye State Archaeology Society and has a collection of Indian artifacts. He started collecting as a young boy on his uncle's farm along the Licking River in Kentucky. He is also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Sylvia worked 25 years as Orient UMC secretary and drove a school bus for Orient-Macksburg School for 18 years. She is a homemaker and community volunteer. She is a trustee for the Adair County Historical Society and project coordinator for the Adair County History book.

Harold and Sylvia are grandparents of ten children, five boys and five girls.
