There have been a number of farms known as the "Sackett Place" in Grove Township. Each represented a branch of the family. Some of the descendants are now residents of the township; others live elsewhere in the county. (Those marked with * live in Adair County.) The pioneer ancestor, Elijah Sackett, came to Grove Township in 1874 from McLean County, Illinois. His sons, Hiram and Charles, settled in the NE1/4 of Section 20.

Charles D. married Mary Gordon, sister of his neighbor, "Abe" Gordon. They remained on their farm (N1/2) until their retirement in Greenfield. Their children were: George or "Dick"; Lucy (McCrea); Arthur, or "Mun"; Mabel; Gertrude (Head), mother of Lloyd Head for whom the Greenfield Legion Post was named; Bertha (Ainley); Ella (Harris); Edna (Butler); Jessie (Ray); Abraham; and Charles or "Chy".

Hiram Sackett and his wife, Mary E. Brown, sold their eighty and bought the NE1/4 of Section 26 in 1881. Their children were: Lyman, Frank, Dudley, Harry, Orville and Clark.

Lyman, the eldest son of Hiram and Mary Sackett, was twelve when he came to Grove Township in 1874. In 1885 he started farming on his own and in subsequent years bought and sold several farms in Grove Township , usually selling at a profit. About 1908 he bought in Grand River Township, living there still in 1915. He and his wife, who was Ettie Hodges, of Grove Township, had three children, Laura (McCarthy), deceased, lived in Grown Township. She had one son, Lloyd (deceased), and twin daughters *Roberta and Rebecca.

Lyman's son, *Bert, married Mildred Peters (deceased). He lives on Section 5 of Grove Township. Bert;s son, *Wilbert, lives on the farm in Section 23 which was the lifelong home of his grandfather's brother, Harry Sackett, who had no children. Lottie youngest of Lyman's family (deceased), married Ray South (deceased), who grew up in Grove Township. They had a son Billy, and reared Laura's daughter *Roberta (Nichols). The other twin was reared by her uncle Bert, with his own three children: Ray, Wilbert and Louise.
