Karen 'Carrie' (Bolson) Hill
Carrie Hill is the special resident of
the month at the Good Samaritan Center for June. Born May 12, 1897 on a farm in Winneshiek county, she is the daughter of Theodore and Ingebar Bolson. She attended the Winneshiek county rural schools and has been a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, retaining her membership in the Decorah Lutheran Church. She was married to George Hill October 27, 1921 and they farmed in Glenwood township, until the death of her husband September 15, 1948 when she moved to Waukon. She worked at Veterans Memorial Hospital and the Good Samaritan Home as a cook and laundry lady. In Postville she cared for the Lyle Groth children for several years. Prior to coming to the Good Samaritan Home in Postville she lived in Decorah for five years. Carrie enjoys sewing and she takes great pride in her 14 grandchildren and ten geat grandchildren. Her own children are Tilmen of Decorah; Howard of Monona; Mrs. (Bernelle) Decker of Waukon and Mrs. Myron (Grace) Erickson of Decorah. She is active in many of the Center's activities and keeps busy crocheting baby afghans for her relatives. ~Postville Herald, Wednesday, June 4, 1975 (column: Resident of the Month, Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa) ~Carrie Hill obituary |
