Thank you Reid, for your diligent detective work.
The attached articles refer to the murder of twin infants in Howard Co. during April of 1903 and the subsequent trials and verdicts rendered. The articles are all from outside the immediate area newspapers and represent essentially all that was reported of the incident by them. As the most informative and accurate reporting of this murder and the subsequent trials will be found in the Cresco, Iowa, newspapers and courthouse records it is hoped that someone in the Cresco area will visit the local newspaper office, library and courthouse to ascertain the facts. Who were Thomas and Hannah, what families were they part of and what ultimately became of them ?
To the articles I can only add the following from the 1930 Federal Census of the Iowa State Penitentiary and Penitentiary Hospital, Ft. Madison, Lee Co., Iowa:
Robinson, Thomas, prisoner, MW, 53 years, Divorced, Born Wisconsin, Parents born Wisconsin, Laborer, Veteran of Sp.
Of Hannah Bries/Dreas/Dreis/Dries/Dreves I can find no further information. With all of her different surnames from the articles it becomes impossible to find further information about her. Again, only local research can ascertain the facts.
The mother, Hannah Dreas/Dreis/Dreves/Bries got 2 1/2 years in prison for her part in the murder/cover-up. With all the surnames it is very hard to track any more information about her.
Who was she, who were her family, what was her final fate ? What happened to her father who was also involved ? I note on the Howard Co. site, using the search engine, a reference to the death of a Mrs. Dreas in the Plain Dealer of 7-21-1903.
Also a reference to the Dreas-Robinson
twins death in the Plain Dealer issue of 6-2-1903. I can not "see" these articles but they might be very informative.
