The Murray Independent Order of Odd Fellowship was instituted in December of 1885. They received their charter from the Iowa Grand Lodge in October 1886 with William Garrett, Grand Secretary and W. T. Holmes as Grand Master. The Murray Odd Fellows started lodge December 7, 1885 with 23 members. The lodge grew steadily over the years and had an excellent degree team. This team was recognized state wide and traveled all over our state to different lodges to initiate candidates in the three degrees of Odd Fellowship. This lodge, also from a Plymouth Encampment which is a subsidiary of Odd Fellows. The Rebekah Lodge, which is the name of the women's branch of Odd Fellows was formed
in 1886. Above is the Odd Fellows' building in which meetings are still being held. I.0.0.F. is a work-wide organization and was founded in America in 1817. Schuyler Colfax is the man who organized and established the Rebekah degree, whereby wives, mothers, daughters and sisters of the Odd Fellows might join the organization. The Motto of 1.0.0.F. is Friendship Love, and Truth; and this organization is dedicated in service to those in need.
