Herman Klein (1869.4960) Henry Klein (1842­1912) Stanley Klein (1895)

 

 

Henry Klein, son of Theobald and Magdalene Mang Klein was born at Bavaria Germany Jan. 26, 1842. At the age of 12 yrs., he left Germany with his parents, brothers and sisters and came by boat to New Orleans and up the Mississippi to Burlington, Ia., in 1855.

He enlisted in the 1st Iowa Infantry at the opening of the Civil War and served 5 months. In 1864 he married Katherine Goesling at Burlington, daughter of Kate and Herman Goesling.

Katherine Goesling was born in Prusia, Germany, Jan. 26, 1847. When she was 7 yrs. old, she with her parents came to American on a sailboat. It took them 14 weeks in crossing. They landed at New York and lived 2 yrs. at Lockport moving from there to Burlington.

1893. They raised a family of 6 children; 4 daughters, Emma Turner, Jennie, Flora Dutton, and Nannie Dutton; 2 sons, Charles and Herman.

In 1894 Herman married Lillie Turner ant they moved on the farm of his parents, where their son, Stanley, was born.

Later in 1900 they moved in the vicinity of Murray where he attended school. He later served in Wold War I. In 1925 he married Marie Smith, and they had 2 children; Lucile Fuller and Merle Klein.

Merle Klein was in the service 2 years during the Korean War. In 1956 he married Mary Alice Sprague and they live on the farm vacated by his parents four miles N.E. of Murray, when his parents moved to Osceola. They have three children, Kevin, Cheryl and Joyce.
